Suicide attacks in three cities of Saudi Arabia


RIYADH - Suicide bombers blew themselves up Monday in three cities of Saudi Arabia, the last day of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan and the start of the Eid, witnesses and media without state others killed.

One died by activating his explosives near the security station in the Prophet's Mosque in Medina, the second holiest city of Islam, reports the Saudi channel Al Arabiya. Pictures circulating on social networks show black smoke and flames near the mosque.

Two explosions also rocked the city of Qatif, in eastern DRC, where many members of the Shiite minority in the kingdom, witnesses who reported seeing human remains probably from a suicide bomber.

These occurred early evening bombings were preceded by another attack, committed in the night from Sunday to Monday in front of the US consulate in Jeddah, the second largest city of Saudi Arabia.

The assailant parked his car outside a hospital in front of the consulate at 2:15 ET detonated his bomb when two officers approached him, slightly injuring them, said state television quoting sources close security services.

In 2004, five armed Islamists had managed to get inside the consulate and killed four Saudi guards and five employees. Three of them were killed by the police and two others arrested.

None of Monday's attacks were claimed.

Since mid-2014, the Islamic State Sunni radical organization was blamed for a series of deadly attacks in Saudi Arabia, particularly to the Shia minority or security forces.
