Washington - A baby under the age of one died in the United States from COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, Illinois state authorities announced on Saturday.

The disease is said to save children relatively, and very young victims are very rare.

“Today I have terribly sad information to report. Among the dead in the past 24 hours, there was a government employee […] and a very young child, "said governor JB at a press conference.

"I know how difficult this news is to accept, especially when it comes to a very young child," he added.

The Illinois Department of Health then specified that the child was less than a year old, without specifying if he suffered from other pathologies.
