Royal wedding 70 years later

November 20 marks 70 years since the Royal wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip. According to the English tradition, such an anniversary is called platinum, the blessed. Elizabeth became the first monarch in history to celebrate this rare jubilee. Let's remember how events developed in the distant 1947.

"The beginning was so far away, so timid the first interest ..." Precisely how Princess Elizabeth met Prince Philip can not be anything but the main characters themselves, and they are not in a hurry to disclose this secret. According to the official version, they met in 1934 at the wedding of the cousin of Philip, the Greek princess Mary and the Duke of Kent, who was Elizabeth's uncle. However, people who knew the royal family closely believed that this could have happened earlier, for example, at one of the home shows, where the future queen played the part of Aladdin, and her sister - the role of the princess.

Home theater was very popular with the royal family since the time of Queen Victoria. This can be understood, given that the future monarchs and their closest relatives from the early nails learned how to appear in public and not be shy. In 1947, Britain was a rather dull sight. Yes, the war was won, but with such a huge price that the public debt was approaching 250% of GDP. The Labor government of Clement Utley tried to carry out as many reforms as possible, which were, of course, good, but there was no money for them. In addition, the country still had a tough card system.

The government tried to centralize the economy and distribute all the goods as honestly as possible, but instead of general equality, for some reason, there was a general discontent. And in this gloomy, gray, still not recovered from the war, not restored the country, was informed of the royal engagement. The people with excitement rushed to prepare for the holiday, which has not been equal for several decades.

The real prince and the people's princess After the war, the royal family was one of the most respected public institutions in the United Kingdom and the countries of the commonwealth. Everyone remembered that when asked by the queen mother if she was going to evacuate the daughters, she replied: "They will not go without me, but I will not go without the king." At the same time, it was well known to everyone that King London will not leave.

The future Queen, at that time the Princess of Wales, Elizabeth drove the truck in the auxiliary territorial building and, by the way, was well versed in the engines. Well, the prince ... It was a real prince: a young, tall, handsome, military sailor, a hero and the most that neither is blue blood. Half of the schoolgirls of the country was in love with him.
