Bolivia: 21 dead on the first day of a carnival

The Univers News - Twenty-one people lost their lives and 72 were injured in several incidents Saturday in Oruro, the first day of a carnival popular in Bolivia, police said Sunday.

In the most serious accident, the explosion of a gas cylinder left eight dead and 47 wounded.

Seriously injured people have been transferred to hospitals, said an official of the Ministry of Health.

The government estimated that 400,000 people would travel to Oruro, a city of half a million people, to attend this popular festival, the country's largest folkloric and religious festival.
