Deadly suicide explosion at Lahore Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park on Sunday


BY GEO NEWS - At least 25 people were killed and over 100 others injured in a deadly suicide explosion near the city’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park on Sunday.

Initial reports suggest that the explosion took place in the parking space of the recreational park. A large number of people including women and children were present at the park due to weekly holiday.

At least 25 people were killed and over 100 others including women and children inured in the suicide blast, said the SP Model Town.

"At least 10 people have been killed in a blast outside Gulshan Iqbal Park," Jam Sajjad Hussain, spokesman for Recuse 112 told media, adding that more than 30 people were injured and had been taken to various hospitals in the city.

Most of the injured are women and children, Hussain said.

Bodies and injured were rushed to Shaikh Zayed Hospital and Jinnah Hospital among others, where an emergency has been imposed.

The security forces and rescue teams along with bomb disposal squad were dispatched to the site immediately after the explosion.

DIG Operations Haider Ashraf, while speaking to the media earlier, had said the blast was highly likely a suicide attack.

Punjab is its biggest and wealthiest province of Pakistan, which is plagued by a Taliban insurgency, criminal gangs and sectarian violence.
