In recent years, electricity prices in Pakistan have almost doubled, significantly increasing the financial burden on the average person.
A recent heart-wrenching incident highlights the worsening situation, where people, overwhelmed by electricity bills, are resorting to extreme measures.
On Wednesday, in Gujranwala, a city in Punjab, Pakistan, a brother killed his own sibling following a heated argument over a high electricity bill.
Speaking to Meda, a relative of the deceased, Muhammad Ijaz, recounted the incident: "Umar told his brother to either pay the electricity bill or leave the house. The argument escalated, leading to a physical confrontation. As Umar stepped outside, his brother chased him with a knife and slit his throat in the street. People are now losing their lives over electricity bills in this country."
