McLaren Dominates Australian GP Qualifying as Norris Takes Pole
MELBOURNE, Australia – McLaren had a perfect start to the 2025 Formula One season, with Britain's Lando Norris securing pole position at the Australian Grand Prix. His teammate, Australian driver Oscar Piastri, will join him on the front row, thrilling the home crowd at Albert Park.
This front-row lockout for McLaren is an ideal way to begin the season, but Norris remains cautious about race-day challenges. "It's the best way to start the year, but the race could be tricky," he warned.
Weather Uncertainty Could Shake Up the Race
The hot conditions during Saturday’s qualifying session, exceeding 30°C, may not carry over into Sunday’s race. Weather forecasts predict rain, which could completely change race strategies and create unexpected opportunities for other teams.
Ferrari Struggles in Qualifying
While McLaren soared, Ferrari had a more challenging session. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, making his Ferrari debut, qualified eighth, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc in seventh.
"As soon as we pushed the car's performance, we saw inconsistencies," said Leclerc. "There's potential, but we’re not in the right window yet."
Hamilton, while not fully satisfied, remains optimistic. "It's not exactly what we wanted, but I’m happy with the progress over the last two days."
Red Bull’s Mixed Performance
Defending champion Max Verstappen managed to secure third on the grid despite early struggles with his Red Bull. "We had a tough start to the weekend, but today I felt in sync with the car," he said.
Meanwhile, his new Red Bull teammate, Liam Lawson, had a disappointing session and will start from 18th place.

Racing Bulls: Yuki Tsunoda impressed with fifth place.

Aston Martin: Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll will start from 12th and 13th, respectively.

Hadjar’s Solid Debut but Frustrated
French rookie Isack Hadjar will start 11th for Racing Bulls, ahead of two-time world champion Fernando Alonso. Despite an impressive performance, Hadjar was frustrated with his final lap. "I’d have taken P11 before the session, but I know where I lost time," he admitted.
