Thunderbolts* Post-Credits Scene: A New Team, A Big Problem, and the Fantastic Four Arrive

Spoiler Warning: This article shares details about the ending and post-credits scene from Thunderbolts*.

Thunderbolts* Ending: From Thunderbolts to New Avengers

The Thunderbolts* movie ends with a surprise. The team gets a new name — The New Avengers.

  • The surviving team members:
    • Yelena Belova
    • The Sentry (Bob Reynolds)
    • Bucky Barnes
    • Red Guardian
    • Ghost
    • John Walker
  • They appear with CIA Director Valentina at a press event.
  • Even though Valentina tried to kill them using the Void, they make a deal.
  • The team keeps her secret. In return, she gives them a new name:
➤ The New Avengers

After this, the word “Thunderbolts*” tears off the screen — replaced by “New Avengers.”

Why the Asterisk? A Comic Book Twist

  • The “*” in Thunderbolts* meant this was not the final version of the team.
  • In the comics, there were different Avengers groups:

    • The New Avengers (unofficial)
    • The Mighty Avengers (government team)

This movie sets up a similar story in the MCU.

Post-Credits Scene: The Fantastic Four Are Coming

The scene jumps ahead a few months. Here's what happens:

  1. In the latest Avengers are in a new base as the Watchtower.
  2. They wear black and red uniforms.
  3. They worry about copyright — Sam Wilson (Captain America) filed for the rights to the "Avengers" name.
  4. To avoid trouble, Red Guardian wears a goofy uniform that says "New Avengerz" with a “Z.”

Then, big news hits:

  • A mystery ship is spotted in space.
  • It heads toward Earth.
  • On the side is a glowing “4” logo.
  • A track from the upcoming film Fantastic Four: First Steps begins to play.

The Fantastic Four are arriving in the main Marvel universe (Earth-616)!

What This Means for the MCU

This scene is a major setup for the next Avengers movie:
➡️ Avengers: Doomsday (2026)
➡️ Followed by Secret Wars (2027)

These movies will feature:

  • Multiple universes colliding (like in Doctor Strange 2)
  • The Fantastic Four joining Earth-616
  • Many superhero teams fighting for control

So Many Teams, So Many Heroes

Right now, the MCU has:

1. New Avengers (The Thunderbolts rebranded)

Led by Valentina

2. Sam Wilson's Avengers Team

Not fully known yet, but likely to include:

  • Sam Wilson
  • Shang-Chi
  • Shuri/Black Panther
  • Ant-Man
  • Thor

3. Young Avengers (In the works)

So far includes:

  • Ms. Marvel
  • Kate Bishop
  • Cassie Lang
  • Wiccan
  • Patriot (Eli Bradley)

4. The Fantastic Four

Coming from another universe

5. X-Men

"A return from Fox’s X-Men universe is expected for the upcoming Doomsday release."

Final Thoughts

Marvel’s post-credits scene didn’t just tease fans — it opened the door for a multiverse of heroes.

The Fantastic Four’s arrival is a big moment and could bring danger with it. And with five teams now in play, the MCU is getting more crowded than ever.

Let’s hope our Thunderbolts-turned-New-Avengers don’t get lost in the chaos. They’ve earned their spot in the big leagues.
