Wildfires Hit Turkey’s 4th-Largest City, Over 1,700 Flee

 

Bursa, Turkey — Wildfires are getting worse across Turkey. The fire have now reached near Bursa area, that Turkey’s 4th-largest city.

What’s Happening?

  • Fires broke out near Bursa on Sunday morning.
  • Over 1,700 people were evacuated from nearby villages.
  • A firefighter died durring firefighting due to heart attack while fighting with the flames.

What Areas Are Burning?

  • Forests and farms in northwest Turkey are burning.
  • Atleast 3,000 hectares (7,413 acres) of land with wild branches have been destroyed.
  • The fire even forced officials to close the highway between Bursa and Ankara.

  • Bursa’s mayor called it a very serious disaster.
  • A local lawmaker said the area looks like an apocalypse.
  • Turkey’s Forestry Minister said crews fought 84 fires across the country on Saturday.
