Dave Mustaine Announces Final Megadeth Album, Farewell
Tour, and Upcoming Memoir
After more than four decades, Megadeth frontman Dave
Mustaine has announced that the band will release one last studio album and
set out on a farewell world tour. He also confirmed that he is working on a
memoir.
The Announcement
Mustaine revealed the news through his iconic alter ego, Vic
Rattlehead, on social media.
- The
upcoming album is titled The End Is Near, expected in 2026.
- It
will follow Megadeth’s 2022 release, The Sick, the Dying… and the
Dead!
Mustaine’s Farewell Words
In his announcement, Dave Mustaine shared his thoughts on stepping away:
"Many artists reach the close of their careers, sometimes by choice and sometimes by chance. Few get the privilege of ending things while still at their peak — and I’m fortunate to be in that place right now. I’ve seen the world, met millions of incredible fans, and the most difficult part of this decision is saying goodbye to them." He continued:
"We’re beyond excited for you to hear this record and join us on tour. If there was ever a right moment to release an album, it’s today. If there was ever a right moment to travel the globe, it’s today. And yes — this will be our final studio album."
Megadeth’s Legacy
Formed in 1983, Megadeth has been one of the most
influential thrash metal bands in history, selling millions of albums worldwide
and winning a Grammy Award. The farewell album and memoir are expected to
highlight their decades-long journey.
