US President Donald Trump said he does not want Iran to get nuclear weapons and wants the Strait of Hormuz to stay open for global trade and oil shipments.
Trump made the comments while speaking with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a meeting in Zhongnanhai.
He said the talks included trade, Iran, and many other global issues.
Trump Says China Will Buy Boeing Jets
Trump also claimed that China agreed to buy 200 Boeing aircraft from Boeing.
In an interview with Fox News, he said the deal would create many jobs in the United States.
Trump added that Boeing needed around 150 orders but would now receive 200.
Trump Praises Xi Jinping
Trump said his relationship with Xi Jinping has improved.
He described the Chinese leader as a “warm” and serious person who focuses on work.
Trump added that Xi does not “play games” during talks and called that a positive thing.
He also joked that if Hollywood tried to find an actor to play Xi, it would be difficult to find someone similar.
Iran and Nuclear Talks
Trump said China also does not want Iran to develop nuclear weapons.
He claimed Xi promised not to provide weapons to Iran and called it “a very big thing.”
Trump added that China buys a large amount of Iranian oil and wants those supplies to continue.
China Calls for Peace in Middle East
China said it is working hard to support peace in the Middle East and hopes to help end the conflict through diplomacy.
Chinese state media said Beijing wants to support peace talks and help create long-term stability in the region.
The statement came after Trump said he would not wait too long for a possible agreement with Iran.
Trump also claimed Xi offered to help bring Iran toward a deal.
China Iran are closet allies. It is also the biggest buyer of Iranian oil and one of Tehran’s top trading partners.
Oil Prices and Global Economy
The conflict has increased pressure on China’s economy because oil-related costs have risen.
At the same time, analysts say the crisis gives Xi Jinping a chance to present China as a global peace supporter while the US faces criticism over regional tensions.
