Canada: Confronting Devastating Fires, 30,000 People Receive Evacuation Orders

More than a thousand fires are currently ravaging Canada, with over 230 in the Northwest Territories and over 370 in British Columbia.

Since the evacuation order was issued on Wednesday, most people have fled via road, while several thousand have taken emergency flights, according to Shane Thompson, the Minister of Environment for the Northwest Territories.

"Approximately 1,000 essential personnel remain in the city and its vicinity," he added. These teams are staying to erect defences against the flames, and water bombers have been seen above the city, with support from the Canadian military.
