Seahawks' Executive VP and General Manager, John Schneider, shared his condolences, saying, "The Seahawks family, along with the devoted 12s, are deeply saddened by the news of Alex's passing. His infectious smile and iconic river dance moves will forever linger in our memories. Alex had a way of brightening up any room, and he was adored by everyone in our organization. He embraced life both on and off the field. A standout in SEC history, he was one of the most accomplished runners. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his immediate family, the Gatewood family, and his agent, Kelli Masters. Your absence will be profoundly felt, Alex.
Collins first joined the Seahawks in 2016 as a fifth-round draft pick. After a stint in Baltimore, he returned to Seattle in 2020 and 2021, earning praise from teammates and coaches for his contributions to the running game.
In 2021, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll lauded Collins, saying, "He brings an incredible spirit to the team. He's making excellent progress, and I'm genuinely excited about him."
Collins endeared himself to Seattle fans not only for his on-field prowess but also for his radiant smile and joyful demeaner. His signature Irish dance touchdown celebration became a beloved sight, representing his dedication to improving his footwork, an art he mastered before his NFL journey.
Hailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Collins attended Arkansas after an impressive career at South Plantation High School. Carroll often highlighted Collins' remarkable achievement of being one of three players in SEC history to achieve over 1,000 rushing yards in three consecutive seasons.
