Mariah Carey has announced the tragic passing of both her mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison, who died on the same day over the weekend, PEOPLE has confirmed.
"My heart is shattered by the loss of my mother this past weekend. Heartbreakingly, my sister also passed away on the same day," the 55-year-old Grammy-winning artist shared in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE.
Patricia, a Juilliard-trained opera singer and vocal coach, was previously married to Alfred Roy Carey. Together, they had three children: Alison, Mariah, and their son Morgan.
