Missed the news this morning? We’ve put together a quick recap to keep you informed.
The celebration of sports continues for an additional eleven days in
France. This Wednesday evening, Paris will host its very first Paralympic Games, beginning with an outdoor ceremony set against a stunning backdrop. Over
4,400 athletes from 168 delegations are ready to parade before nearly 50,000
spectators gathered.
The organizers have promised a ceremony with the same level of ambition
as the July 26th Olympic ceremony, which was praised worldwide. Leading the
athletes toward their gold medal dreams, the French flag bearers will be Alexis
Hanquinquant (para-triathlon) and Nantenin Keita (para-athletics).
Nearly two million tickets sold
The first – and best – way to gauge it is still to look at the ticketing
figures. And on this point, we can say that it smells rather good. With nearly
two million tickets sold, “the best return match of your life” as Tony
Estanguet likes to say, already seems to be a success. In this respect, the
Paralympic Games have undoubtedly surfed on the success of the Olympic Games.
