A tragic incident unfolded in southern Thailand on Saturday when an explosion rocked a fireworks warehouse. According to the governor of Narathiwat province, Sanan Pongaksorn, nine people lost their lives, and 115 others were left injured in the devastating blast.
"The fire is now under control. Preliminary investigations suggest that the cause of the explosion was a technical error during the welding of steel, as the building was still under construction," added the governor.
An eyewitness describes the scene as chaotic. Thai television network PBS reported that around 500 houses were damaged in the explosion in the town near the border with Malaysia. Media footage revealed a massive plume of smoke, roofs torn off, and numerous businesses, homes, and vehicles severely damaged or engulfed in flames.
"I was playing with my phone at home when suddenly, I heard a deafening noise," recounted Seksan Taesen, whose house was located about a hundred meters away from the warehouse.
This tragic incident has left the local community in shock and mourning for those who lost their lives and are now grappling with the aftermath of the devastating explosion. Authorities will continue their investigation to ascertain the full extent of the damages and provide support to those affected by this unfortunate event.
